Youth Street Hockey

About
Street hockey is played in the outdoor hockey rink on turf with only a  hockey stick and street hockey ball.  The goal of this program is to learn the basic technical and tactical skills of the game in a very fun environment.  The rules are very limited to keep the play moving.  There is no body checking to keep the game safe and force players to use the fundamentals learned.

Coaching is key!   Coach Mike has his national youth coaching license, over 20 years of youth coaching and directing experience and continues to play ice hockey in the Space Coast Iceplex league.   Joining Mike is a staff of former collegiate student-athletes whose goal is to help ensure your child enjoys their soccer experience.

Sessions are one hour per week each Saturday evening include a warm-up, individual technical practice and a real hockey game.  During the game, Blue Tornado coaches will incorporate our “PLP” Methodology: Pause, Learn, Play.   This method ensures that players are allowed to make their own decisions and mistakes, pause for less than 30 seconds to learn and/or choose the appropriate decision if needed as well as  follow through on that decision technically so that good habits are formed.

We will teach the fundamental skills of the game, such as, how to hold the stick, stick handling the ball, stealing, passing, catching and shooting, how to attack and defend in 1v1 and team situations and the basic tactics of team play.

What gear do I need?
None, we provide it all.  Just show up and have fun!  Players are welcome to bring their own stick if they want.
